Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by! My name is Kate and I’m a stay-at-home mommy to two wild, rambunctious, sweet, lovable little boys.
When my husband and I decided we wanted one parent at home for our babes, we really had to cut back. Adjusting to that loss of income was not easy and I’ve become a little obsessed about finding ways to save money without feeling deprived in our daily life.
A little about me: I used to work in the Social Work field helping women in my community find job opportunities and learn budgeting basics to help them get through rough times. Because of this experience, I’m now a super nerd that squees (you know, like squeal but sounds like “squee!!!”) over budgeting. I know how scary budgeting can be but also how vital it is when funds are tight. I don’t know what it is exactly about crunching and organizing those numbers for people, but I love it! And hunting down an easy hack, project, or recipe is my jam (Speaking of jam, I make my own and it’s amazing. So I guess jam is my jam, too. Recipe to follow!) See? Super nerd.
Nowadays, many people choose to hire outside help instead of doing it themselves. Home repairs. Cleaning the house. Even knowing how to cook is becoming a DIY. But for us, the major way we save and afford living on one income is by DIYing (hence “i dream of DIY”). From small DIYs like making our own household cleaners to big projects like reconstructing our shower, we do it all! Or…we try to. We’re not perfect and are always learning. The husband is amazingly handy around the house though and if he doesn’t know how to handle something, he researches like mad until he can get it right.
Here at i dream of DIY, we will talk about all the tricks we’ve learned to save money in the home and share how we progress as we learn more. From cooking, home projects, and cleaning to getting into the dirt with gardening, the know-how to DIY can save you a bundle!
We feel very fortunate to be able to take charge of our home and finances, and our hope is to help others make changes to better their situation no matter their income, work life, or family situation. We are all in this crazy world together and we all just want to make the best of the life we’ve got. So let’s save some money, spend wisely, and have some fun in the process!
If you ever have any questions, let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
Kate
